Last month, a few clients and aides of our Memory Care program enjoyed a delightful day at Robert Wagner Park in lower Manhattan. The program's very first meetup, Art in the Park, was a great success. The participants and caregivers supported each other and painted beautiful landscapes with facilitator, Jodie Berman, Director of Programs and Community Engagement for True Care. They learned how to "paint what you see" as they overlooked a breathtaking view of the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty. They also learned a paint technique called a "wash", where a layer of color is applied using diluted watercolor paint.
The results of the Art in the Park meetup were truly phenomenal. The participants were very pleased with their work and they even signed and framed their art to display in their homes.
Prior to the outing, some of the members of our Memory Care program got together to plan and prepare for the picnic portion of the meetup. They made a grocery list and went shopping for the necessary ingredients to make a variety of sandwiches. They even baked and cooked their own specialties for the picnic. Clients, Ruth, Marie, & Renee, made homemade pickles, potato salad, and chocolate chip cookies. As they enjoyed their picnic lunch we heard comments like, "What a delightful day." and, "This was so much fun." One attendee, Marge, proclaimed, “We created a day to remember.”
